Natavea (Phase II) Revival of Cultural Expressions Workshop, NAITASIRI

Purpose:
To further develop the communities cultural programs from Phase I where they were exposed to bure-building skills. Phase II saw the participants applying skills in woodcarving, mat weaving, screen printing, and bamboo craft development as means of boosting the communities ecotourism products and aspirations. Revival of meke and vucu (song and dance) and traditional customary practices complemented the whole project.

Nasaucoko Cultural Development Workshop, NAVOSA
Program: Community Cultural Development

Purpose:
To restore and beautify the village's historical site, and revive bure-building and pottery skills. The culmination of the 2-week workshop was the construction of a traditional bure near the vicinity of the village historical site. The bure will house their artifacts and collections and will be used as a tourist attraction or mini-museum. It will also be used as a venue for future cultural workshops and as a cultural educational center for the young people of Nasaucoko.

Namuamua - Revival of Handicraft Skills, NAMOSI
Program: Community Cultural Development

Purpose:
To revive handicraft and basket weaving skills, bamboo craft development and screen printing, as a vehicle for strengthening Namuamua's ecotourism program. Namuamua has been a tourist attraction for almost 20 years with an average of 400 visitors weekly and with this opportunity the Ecotourism Unit approached the Department for assistance towards crafts development. The workshop was a joint initiative between the Department and the Ecotourism Unit.
