“Slightly curved wooden bar rests on a circle of wood, itself resting on a flat base. Very highly polished, made from a single piece of sacred vesi wood. These ‘pillows’ were used in sleep by placing the bar at the base of the skull, or just below the ear if sleeping on the side. There is some speculation that headrests were first developed to keep the elaborate hairdos in place during sleep. Headrests of high-ranking people acquire dangerous power and may therefore not be used by those of lesser rank.”
